Why Haiti?

The economic conditions in Haiti are considerably poor as a result of low literacy rates, inadequate health conditions, and the country’s vulnerability to natural disasters. Poverty is the main cause of child abuse and trafficking in Haiti, with 80% of residents living below the poverty line. The children living in rural areas have experienced a systematic denial of their basic needs such as shelter, nutrition, health care and education.

Restavek, which means “to stay with” is a system of unpaid domestic child labor. Children from rural areas are sent to live in larger cities like Port Au Prince. Here, they exchange their household labor for food, shelter, and education. Oftentimes, these children are not allowed to contact their parents and are even abandoned by their families. Many of these children have also reported occurrences of physical, sexual and verbal abuse by their host families. Help us make a difference in Haiti.

How We're Serving

Fresh Water for Locals

One of the first projects our team worked on upon their arrival in Léogâne was to provide fresh water for the community. Since 2021, our campus has been providing over 8,000 gallons of fresh water everyday for the locals, right outside our campus gate. At least 100 families now have access to fresh water, some of which are walking up to five miles a day to get it.

Safe Campus

There are currently four young women living on our campus full time. Along with safe shelter, we are also providing funds for schooling and everyday essentials, as well as helping them master valuable skills like housework. The four women were already staying on the campus when 58:12 Haiti was founded, so we have spent time ministering and getting to know each of them.

Feed Their Bellies Program

This program focuses on providing lunch for children in the surrounding neighborhood twice a week on the 58:12 Haiti campus. This outreach will give our staff the opportunity to minister to the children and offer them the hope of the gospel.
